Transparency and accountability are essential for building trust and maintaining a safe, suitable environment for every person and every brand on TikTok. As more and more brands continue to join TikTok, we've remained committed to being the most transparent and accountable company in the industry by providing unparalleled insight into our practices—how we operate, how our moderation system works and how we recommend content.

Transparency Reports

Millions of people around the world come to TikTok to share, engage and enjoy content every day. In order to promote a safe and welcoming environment for all users, we remove accounts and content that don't adhere to the policies outlined in our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.


In order to provide visibility into the volume and nature of content and accounts removed from TikTok, we publish Community Guidelines Enforcement Reports each quarter. As part of our transparency reporting, we also report on insights around government removal requests, intellectual property removal requests and information requests on a biannual basis. All of our reporting can be found in our refreshed online Transparency Center.


Transparency & Accountability Centers

In addition to our Transparency Reports, we have also announced physical centers where key stakeholders like experts and lawmakers will have the opportunity to directly observe our practices, including how our trained content moderators review content escalated to them, as well as our data security practices and the measures we're taking to safeguard user privacy and information. While not currently open to the public, we will open two Transparency and Accountability Centers in the United States (Los Angeles and Washington, D.C), and have recently announced our new European Center in Dublin. (with plans to be fully operational by 2022). Due to the constraints of COVID, all centers are now operating virtually.

TikTok Online Transparency Center

Information about all of our transparency efforts can be found in our online Transparency Center, a landing page where we chronicle the steps we’re taking to help keep our platform safe, share additional details about our company operations, and highlight resources including information about our Transparency and Accountability Centers and news about our latest transparency efforts.


By providing insight into TikTok's practices, we hope to foster open dialogue with experts as we build upon our efforts to develop industry-leading policies and protections that create a safer experience on our platform.


TikTok’s For You feed algorithm

When users open TikTok, they are immediately presented with a stream of videos curated to their interests. In 2020 we revealed how the recommendation system behind the For You feed works and have continued to provide more information and resources on how users are fed videos. As a part of these major steps, we've also released newsroom posts to discuss how we're working to counter some of the issues that all recommendation services can grapple with, and share tips for how users can personalize their discovery experience on TikTok.
