With the holidays just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for businesses to try TikTok’s newest ad-boosting tools.

Did you know that 2 out of 3 TikTokers plan to spend more than $200 this holiday season, a 9% increase compared to last year?1

Promote and Spark Ads are TikTok’s newest ad features to help you boost content and meet specific goals for your business. Whether you want more video views, followers, or click-throughs or want to target a specific geographical area, Promote and Spark Ads can help you take your ad campaigns to the next level.


Here’s a quick breakdown of how to get started and begin reaping the rewards of these new tools. 

TikTok Promote

The Promote feature is a great tool to start advertising on TikTok. This tool makes advertising easy, fast, and effective all within the mobile app. Tap the promote button on your video, follow the prompts, and make your first ad!

Get started

You can access the Promote tool from a posted TikTok video or in your profile page. To access Promote through your profile, click Settings and Privacy, then select either Business Suite or the Creator tools.


To view all your videos that can be promoted, tap the three-line icon ≡ in the top right corner of your profile page, tap Creator tools or Business Suite, then tap Promote. 

Now that you’ve picked the video you want to promote, it’s time to set your goals, audience, and budget:

1. Select your goal—choose between more video views, website visits, or followers.      
2. Customize your audience by gender, age, and interests or let TikTok do it for you.
3. Set the budget and duration of your campaign using the sliding scale.

 

Don’t forget to track your results with the post-campaign report in the TikTok app. Try boosting different videos with different goals and see what works best for your business! 

 

Additional considerations

Works for all account types (business, creator, or personal) with any number of followers      
Must be 18 years of age or older

Spark Ads

If you’re ready to level up your ad game, Spark Ads is the perfect tool. The biggest difference between Promote and Spark Ads is that Sparks Ads lets you boost content that other TikTok users have created in addition to your own content. Sparks Ads also has more options for setting your goals and targeting customers.

 

To make a Spark Ad you can use:
Your own TikTok post 
→ Organic posts made by other Creators – with their authorization

 

The videos you boost can be directly related to your brand—like a happy customer posting a product review—or it can be content that aligns with your brand purpose, identity, values, or service. This tool allows you to boost ready-made content with a proven track record to connect to your desired audience. 

Get started

1. Create a TikTok Ads Manager Account.

2. Go to Assets, then Creative, and click on the Spark Ads Posts tab.
3. Authorize your video to enable it to be used in an ad. Other creators will need to authorize their videos to be used in your ads.
4. Generate the video code, and enter the code on TikTok Ads Manager.      
5. Set up your campaign goals: video reach, views, engagement, app installs, traffic, or conversion. 
6. Upload your content and publish your Spark Ad!

Additional considerations

Videos can range from 3-60 seconds and are full screen with sound on
→ Option to promote brand by adding captions (150 characters or less) 
→ Allows you to tag your brand or other accounts 
→ More in-depth reporting, including reach, video views, traffic, conversion, and more
→ Videos will include a sponsor tag
