The Objective

When Jessica Thompson learned of the horrific environmental impact of plastic, she was inspired to make eco-friendly plastic wrap alternatives. They were a hit among family and friends in her town. She soon opened a local store within her community. However, when the pandemic hit, she had to quickly put her store online. Jessica launched her online store with Square (an official TikTok Commerce Partner), uploaded all of her inventory, and leveraged TikTok to promote her products on @BeeJoyfulJess . After consistently posting on the platform, she saw an immediate impact on her sales. “Oh, we saw a huge spike!” We got enough sales just from TikTok to pay rent,” said Thompson.

The Solution

TikTok quickly became an important part of her marketing strategy. Jessica consistently posts videos using trending sounds and relates them to sustainability. She molds together both valuable educational content regarding sustainability and teaches users how to use and find eco-friendly products. Being entertaining and bringing joy has been the core foundation of her successful videos.

Along with this, Jessica used the Square x TikTok integration and TikTok Shopping feature. With this, she is able to create videos with product links and provide fans with a streamlined shopping experience. This integration makes it easy for users who see her TikTok videos to immediately buy her linked products. “When I'm adding product links and everything, it's super smooth and seamless,” Thompson said. “Once people hit your page, it's easier for them to buy and you can make the sale.”

The Results

Now, Beejoyful has three brick-and-mortar locations as well as her online shop, and TikTok is still an important part of her strategy. @BeeJoyfulJess has gotten continued traction on TikTok in part because she is fearless in her approach, and now with eight kids, she jokes that she has her own PR squad at home. She has grown her account to over 60K followers and garnered over 1.8 million total likes. Jessica looks forward to continuing using TikTok as an opportunity to educate viewers about being more eco-conscious while sharing her reusable products along the way.
