🚨HOW I USED TO RUN EASY V. HOW I *NOW* RUN EASY👀🙈 So I used to run sooooooo lazy when I ran easy. To me easy went beyond pace. It went to just a total disregard for anything resembling decent running. Easy meant lazy, sloppy, with VERY poor form. Once I started working on FORM— I started focusing it on my easy days since I was focused on speed on my workout days. 💡Then I had an epiphany— holding good form on your easy days meant you were PRACTICING holding good form & strengthening your body so that when you’re in the race & tired and fatiguing, GOOD FORM felt NATURAL. ⚡️So now — NO DAYS are an excuse to run lazy. 👉🏽When I’m tired, I let myself run ANY PACE — whatever feels truly easy. But I NEVERRRR let myself run with bad form. That’s no longer an option. Bad form to me would reinforce old habits that I have spent a long time to correct and do more harm than good. 👉🏽Our stride may not look EXACTLY the same as when we are running fast— most because there is less power/force exerted, but the mechanics should be the SAME. 💡Running slower is NEVER an excuse to running sloppy. They are not synonymous. 👉🏽👉🏽Things I FOCUS on now— ⚡️GREAT posture! Strong core! ⚡️Forward lean! ⚡️Arm swing dialed in for me— since I’m taller that means holding my arms and swinging from my hips area (i.e. I used to hold my arms super close to my chest and flail them. Now I hold them in a more powerful position so that they HELP me more— ps arm swing varies by height!) ⚡️High cadence! It will be a bit slower for easy runs— but the focus should still be on quicker cadence in general! 🙌🏽Do you work on holding GOOD form on easy days or do you just hope no one will see your lazy running? 🤠PS ALL of our FAST guides have a weekly form focus. Making small adjustments to your stride can make a huge difference in your overall efficiency, and not to mention… prevent overuse injuries, like shin splints and knee pain. ⠀ Running is a controlled fall: you’re pushed down by gravity, and you push off the ground, fighting gravity. The more economically you do this, the easier running is. ⠀ Landing under your hips, with the intention of propelling forward, is easier with a high cadence and when you “kiss the ground” with your mid foot instead of landing with a hard heel drive. Even just doing a heel strike demo… I felt it in my meniscus I never got surgery on. Arm swing: keep it aerodynamic. Pretend there’s a wall on either side of your body. Hips: fall from the hips; don’t lean away. ⠀ Integrate small adjustments to see what works for you!
