Don’t miss Blue Mesa trail! Petrified Forest National Park is one of the most pet friendly and driveable national parks in the US. It’s known for having Triassic fossils, petrified wood, and petroglyphs. This park was easily our favorite cross country road trip stop since it’s right along i40 so we could stretch our legs with beautiful views of the Painted Desert while on our long journey. I recently visited Petrified Forest National Park for the very first time and these are three things I would advise any first-time visitor not to do! Number one: don’t skip the visitor’s center! It has so much mind-blowing information about the formation of the area and really makes you appreciate the park that much more! Number two: don’t take any petrified wood out of the park. I think that’s a no-brainer (plus, it’s a felony!) Number three: don’t think that driving through will do this park justice! Definitely get out and walk around! Bonus number four! Don’t forget your @shadyrays! 😎

Here’s how to make the most of your time at Petrified Forest National Park - Make sure to save this for future reference! If you only have an hour: ❇️ Drive the 28 miles from one end of the park to the other takes about an hour. ❇️ Walk the Giant Logs Trail (pick up a trail guide outside Rainbow Forest Museum) ❇️ Buy some souvenirs at the Rainbow Forest Museum If you have a half-day: ❇️ Stop at the Painted Desert Inn ❇️ Enjoy the views and wayside exhibits at Route 66, Newspaper Rock, and Jasper Forest ❇️ Walk the Puerco Pueblo Trail ❇️ Attend a Ranger Program ❇️ Explore Blue Mesa and walk the trail If you have a full-day: ❇️ Walk more trails, like Long Logs and Agate House ❇️ Attend a Ranger Program or other Guided Tours Hopefully this helps you plan your Petrified Forest National Park experience!
