3 ways I mentally get through long runs!! The GOOD and the BAD thing about long runs…it’s A LOT of time alone with your own thoughts. 😅 Some days I can just hit a flow state, others I need to rely on some tools to get me through. #1 OVERCOMING THE BOREDOM During “bored moments” it can be easy to convince myself to stop, slow down, or take a break. To keep things interesting, I will: - Run in a new location/somewhere I do not run often - Listen to podcasts - Run with Chase - Call a friend - Run TO somewhere, a coffee shop/bagel shop #2 MENTAL GAMES AND RUNNER’S MATH Yeah, my mind goes to weird places on runs, it’s fun. - Run to the tree, focus on JUST running to that tree, then find a new one - Pass the person in front of me, even though they are walking and just living life 😅 - Make up stories in my mind - If it’s cold, I’ll pretend I’m running on the beach or in a fancy new location - Runner’s math. 20 miles = 4 laps (1 lap = 5 miles) And finally… #3 VISUALIZATION A powerful tool a volleyball coach once taught me! - Thinking about previous races/wins - Acting like I’m in a race - Thinking about crossing my current race finish line Runners, how do you get through long runs?
