If you’re struggling with knowing how to perform a lat pulldown correctly, here’s my advice: 1) Focus on getting your elbows to touch the side of your body and allow yourself to slightly lean when you pull down. 2) take a deep breathe in your diaphragm and either exhale when you pulldown or in breathe in between reps. Lat Pulldowns - Firstly, adjust the cushion so that your legs are firmly clasped under it for stability. Next, you want to focus on your grip. Ideally you want to grab the handle slightly wider than shoulder width. Get the weight iff the stack and retract your shoulders. Keep your chest up and pull with your elbows. Let’s fix some form PT.3 🛠️⤵️ LAT PULLDOWN: ✅Pulling bar down to upper chest (concentric phase) ✅Squeezing shoulder blades down and together (scapular depression/retraction) ✅Controlling the bar slowly on the way back up (controlled eccentric phase) ❌Using too much momentum during the lowering (concentric) phase ❌Not controlling the bar on the way up (eccentric phase) ❌Excessive back extension TRICEP EXTENSION: ✅Shoulders back (slight shoulder retraction) ✅Elbows tucked in for greater triceps emphasis ✅Controlling the ropes back up (appropriate eccentric stimulus) ❌Shoulders rolling forward (scapular protraction) ❌Shoulders shrugging up (scapular rotation to compensate for weak triceps) ❌Potential decreased ROM LATERAL RAISE: ✅Pure focus on abduction ✅Bracing core & maintaining a static position ✅Controlling the concentric & eccentric phases ❌Using momentum through hip extension ❌Minimal concentric stimulus & not controlling the eccentric portion of the lift Disclaimer: This is a quick educational video of what incorrect & correct form may look like. When I think of a lat pulldown with the regular bar, I want it to be a lat-focused movement — specifically lower lats. In order to best bias the lower lats a wide grip is needed in order to pull closer to your frontal plane (hands out the sides). However, be mindful to not poke your head through at the top of the movement or you’ll lose pretty much all tension in your lats in that position. To go even further, the lower lats have the best leverage in the movement at the bottom shortened portion of the movement (this is also where the lats will be weakest/hardest part of the movement). Thus, by starting your set focused on this shortened portion and gradually shifting the ROM as you fatigue you can better bais the lower lats — wow thankful for all this wonderful info today #fyp #fitness #gym #bodybuilding #tiktoktaughtme
