Let’s fix some form PT.3 🛠️⤵️ LAT PULLDOWN: ✅Pulling bar down to upper chest (concentric phase) ✅Squeezing shoulder blades down and together (scapular depression/retraction) ✅Controlling the bar slowly on the way back up (controlled eccentric phase) ❌Using too much momentum during the lowering (concentric) phase ❌Not controlling the bar on the way up (eccentric phase) ❌Excessive back extension TRICEP EXTENSION: ✅Shoulders back (slight shoulder retraction) ✅Elbows tucked in for greater triceps emphasis ✅Controlling the ropes back up (appropriate eccentric stimulus) ❌Shoulders rolling forward (scapular protraction) ❌Shoulders shrugging up (scapular rotation to compensate for weak triceps) ❌Potential decreased ROM LATERAL RAISE: ✅Pure focus on abduction ✅Bracing core & maintaining a static position ✅Controlling the concentric & eccentric phases ❌Using momentum through hip extension ❌Minimal concentric stimulus & not controlling the eccentric portion of the lift Disclaimer: This is a quick educational video of what incorrect & correct form may look like. If you’re struggling with knowing how to perform a lat pulldown correctly, here’s my advice: 1) Focus on getting your elbows to touch the side of your body and allow yourself to slightly lean when you pull down. 2) take a deep breathe in your diaphragm and either exhale when you pulldown or in breathe in between reps. Lat Pull-down: COMMON MISTAKE SAVE for future reference and share to help others grow in the gym! 💕 Lat pull downs target both your lats and your upper back. 💪 make sure you’re using proper form to get the most out of them. ❌ COMMON MISTAKES: - Using momentum and letting gravity take control really cheats a lot of people here…if you need* to swing or jerk the bar, your too high in weight and could injury yourself really quickly. Ease up, tiger. If you want to engage the correct muscles, you need good form. -Leaning too far back -Gripping the bar too wide -Pulling the bar too far down ✅FORM TIPS -Drive your elbows down -keep forearms as vertical as possible -Pull the bar down to the top of the chest/below the chin -Slow and contrólele the whole way down AND the whole way up -Hold the bar just outside of shoulder width Got it?
