✨𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐃𝐨𝐠✨🐶🥾 Having your pup accompany you on a backpacking trip can be an incredibly rewarding experience for both you & your furry best friend, but it also comes with some unique challenges & safety considerations, so here are some dos & don’ts to help you hit the trail safely! 𝐃𝐎 pack all of your dog’s essentials. Leash (even if you’re hiking in an area that allows dogs to be under vocal control), poo bags, water/food bowl, food, first-aid kit, something to sleep on (Becket usually sleeps on my extra clothes, but there are some fancy dog sleeping bags out there!). Consider getting a pack for your dog so they can carry their own supplies & make sure all of the dog food you pack fits in your bear canister or bear bag if you’re hiking in bear country!🐻 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 push your pup beyond their limits. Know their hiking capabilities before heading out on a multi-day trip and consider the weather & trail conditions before committing. We once bailed on a backpacking trip in Idaho because it was just too hot for Becket to safely hike!🥵 𝐃𝐎 choose a trail with plenty of water sources so you don’t have to carry extra water for your pup!💦 𝐃𝐎 acclimate your pup to your tent ahead of time to make sure they’re comfortable. If you’re looking for a dog-friendly backpacking tent, the @rei half dome tents are extra roomy & accommodate a dog comfortably!🏕 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 forget to pack our your pup’s waste & follow Leave No Trace practices!✨🏔 #HikingDog #HikingWithDogs #BackpackingWithDogs #AdventureDog #HikingTips #HikeTok #KateOutdoors
