What information do we process to create TikTok Analytics?
We create TikTok Analytics from certain data our servers log when users view, engage or otherwise interact with content made available under other TikTok Accounts. We refer to this data as "Engagement Data".
The Engagement Data we collect can include some or all of the following:
- People's actions. This includes actions like the following:Viewing content made available under a TikTok Account ("Content")Liking any Content;Commenting on or sharing Content;Clicking on areas within a TikTok Account or their Content (e.g. video anchors, user bio, app download);Starting a communication with the TikTok user who made the Content available.
- Information about the actions, the people taking the actions, and the browsers/apps used for them such as the following:Date and time of action;View duration;Country/city;Age/gender group;User interests;User device type; andSource of the Content views (E.g. For you tab, Following tab, Search, etc.).
TikTok Account holders (and their Account Admins) do not have access to Engagement Data but only to the aggregated, anonymous TikTok Analytics we generate. TikTok Analytics are provided only regarding the TikTok Account holder’s own account and based on Engagement Data related to their account. TikTok Account holders do not receive TikTok Analytics about other TikTok accounts. The events logged by TikTok in order to generate TikTok Analytics are solely defined by TikTok and cannot be set, changed or otherwise be influenced by TikTok Account holders.
Responsibility for use of your Engagement Data used to create TikTok Analytics
The Engagement Data that we collect to create aggregated, anonymous TikTok Analytics may include certain information that qualifies as personal data protected under the EU General Data Protection Regulation and/or the UK General Data Protection Regulation (each, as applicable, the "GDPR").
Where an interaction of a user with a TikTok Account and the content associated with it triggers the creation of an event for TikTok Analytics which includes personal data for whose processing the TikTok Account holder determines the means and purposes of the processing jointly with TikTok, TikTok and the TikTok Account holder will be jointly responsible for the processing of the Engagement Data used to generate TikTok Analytics. We explain our joint responsibilities below:
- TikTok and TikTok Account holders entered into a contractual arrangement to determine their respective responsibilities for complying with the GDPR as it applies to the processing of Engagement Data. This arrangement is set out in the TikTok Analytics Joint Controller Addendum.
- TikTok and TikTok Account holders have agreed that TikTok is responsible for providing users with information about the processing of Engagement Data for TikTok Analytics and for enabling users to exercise their rights under the GDPR. Under the GDPR, users have the right vis a vis the controllers to access, rectify, port, delete and object to and restrict processing of their data. Learn more about these rights in our Privacy Policy. You can exercise these rights through TikTok’s privacy webform or, if you prefer, you can contact our Data Protection Officer here.
- TikTok and TikTok Account holders have agreed that the Irish Data Protection Commission is the lead supervisory authority in the European Economic Area responsible for overseeing the processing of Engagement Data for TikTok Analytics. In the United Kingdom, the relevant authority is the Information Commissioner's Office. You always have the right to lodge a complaint with either supervisory authority, as applicable, or with any other competent supervisory authority.
