Japan was a lot more affordable than I thought it would be, but in some it was more expensive (like the hotels in Tokyo). We stayed 4 nights in Tokyo & 1 night in Hakone and could have significantly cut down on costs by staying in a more budget-friendly Tokyo hotel or hostel but we wanted a little more space… Tokyo hotels are notorious for being tiny!! As you can see, it also very much helps to travel with at least one other person so that you can split costs.

Here’s a little insight in to how much we spent in Tokyo! Hopefully this helps you budget for your trip! I would highly recommend saving because it is not cheap there, probably the most we’ve ever spent on a 1 week vacation 😭 But also worth every dime!! 2-WEEK JAPAN ITINERARY 🇯🇵‼️ — TOKYO: 5 days There are so many cities to visit each with their own unique character and fun things to do. My favourite spots are Harajuku, Ueno and Asakusa for the shopping, food and vibes. — LAKE KAWAGUCHIKO (Mt Fuji): 1 day I highly recommend hiring a car to drive around Lake Kawaguchiko. You’ll find amazing views of Mt Fuji here! — KYOTO: 3 days My favourite city of this trip! I would definitely visit for longer the next time I’m in Japan. I love the mix of the traditional with the city-life and I had an amazing day exploring Arashiyama. There is so much more to do there than just visiting the bamboo forest. Be sure to visit Kiyomizu-dera and Fushimi Inari Shrine too. — OSAKA: 4 days Everytime i’m in Osaka, I shop and eat so much. Exploring Dotonbori’s vibrant street is a must. Make sure to check out the iconic signage, shopping alleys, amazing street food and hidden restaurants. No Osaka trip is complete without visiting Universal Studios to see Super Nintendo World and Hogwarts too! — NARA: 1 day You can’t visit Japan without taking a day trip to see the deers which are so cute and fun to feed.
