Derm Weighs In on the Viral Beef Tallow Skincare Trend 🐄🧴⁠ ⁠ Beef tallow may indeed moisturize your skin, much like other oils. However, it's not the magical ingredient some claim it to be. Here's what you should consider:⁠ ⁠ The safety and efficacy of tallow for skincare will require further clinical research. Tallow is not approved by the FDA for use in skincare due to the risk of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease. So, if you encounter tallow in skincare, it's often something local or homemade.⁠ ⁠ This lack of regulation opens the door to a host of other problems involving the product's sourcing, purity, consistency, use of preservatives (or not), and stability.⁠ ⁠ Given these uncertainties, I suggest sticking with traditional skincare products that have been tested and regulated for your skin's safety and well-being.

Replying to @Hannah2000 homemade beef tallow moisturizer👇👇 😂if you havent tried rubbing beef fat all over your body, it’s time to start! 👉Beef tallow is rich in nutrients taht are great for the skin, plus it is very mosturitizing because beef suet has a similar makeup to human sebum. 🧴swapping out toxic beauty products is one of the best things you can do for your health. 🤯many creams contain endocrine disrupting chemicals like pthalates and parabens that can disrupt hormone function. 💸but it can be pricey…. 👉so make it at home! I made 10oz of the highest quality beef tallow for $8. 2oz usually costs $30-$40…. 🤯that’s $0.08 / oz versus $17.5 / oz …. 👉plus, when you can make sure it is quality suet and without any comedegnic ingredients like olive oil here’s how I do it: 1️⃣to a slow cooker or large pot add 1 lb beef suet. Add 3-4 cups of filtered water and 1 tbsp sea salt. Let it cook on low for 2-3 hours or until fully melted. If you’re doing this on the stove, let it cook at a low temp for a couple hours. 2️⃣strain out any large pieces and transfer it to the fridge to set. Once it hardens the tallow will seperate from the water. Discard the water and scrape off any impurities from the tallow. Repeat step 1 1-2 more times if you’d like ot purify it further. 3️⃣Now that you have a purified brick of tallow, let it dry completed then break it into pieces and heat over low heat just until it’s melted. Pour the melted tallow into a mixing bowl or bowl of a standing mixer, making sure to avoid pouring any water that melted off with it (I slowly pour the melted tallow and discard the last 2 tablespoons to avoid any water that seperates). 4️⃣Let that set in the fridge for 20 minutes or until it is just hardening. Then you have use an electric mixer to mix the tallow into a whipped consistency. 5️⃣Divide into jars and you have single ingredient, nourishing tallow lotion! When you’re dealing with fat from an animal, it can vary a lot…like a whole lot. This is probably the worst bunch of sediment I’ve ever had in a batch of tallow, but I know some of y’all that are just learning to render your own tallow may mistake this for good beef gelatin. It’s definitely not. There’s lots of good gelatin in there, but it’s mixed with all kinds of funkiness, so it went straight to the chickens who gobbled it up.
