There are so many different sewing gadgets/ tools out there, many you might not even know exist! These are some of my favorite gadgets that I didn’t know about for a long time, but now can’t imagine not having them! Spring loaded micro tip snip: great for clipping threads, seams, corners, and more! The spring loading makes them very easy to use! 2. Electric scissors: these are powered by a rechargeable battery and cut through multiple layers very quickly! 3. Wash away hem tape: double sided tape that os great for hemming, basting, pocket placemat, and so much more! It will wash away/ disappear in water! 4. Scissor sharpener: great to keep your scissors nice and sharp! This one is very small and easy to use! 5. Bodkin: great from turning tubes, threading waistbands/ elastics! 6. Magnet Seam Guatemalan: hooks onto the plate of your sewing machine to help keep your seam allowance even while sewing! 7. Walking foot: amazing for sewing knits to prevent them from being stretched out! Also great for sewing thick or multiple layers evenly! 8. Clips: A great alternative to pins! They are very easy to use and eliminate the danger of poking yourself😅 9. Projector: no more printing a piecing together patterns! This is my most used item next to my machines! 10. Do you bias? Bias isnt always “bias” for bag making! Dont need it to go around curves? Dont cut it across the fabric! Instead cut across the grain and make your tape that way! A game changer for binding bags or finishing the edges of vinyl or faux leather. My top 10 sewing tools I use for every project and you will need to start sewing. 1. Sewing machine: Get a full size sewing machine. Get a brother, singer, juki, Viking, (they all work great). If you’re picky, then do your research. Computerized is best for the kids since there is a speed control. 2. Serger (overlock). I have a singer that is still working great after 10+ years. If you want that quality finish on the inside of your clothes then invest in it if you’re planning on making lots of clothes. 3. Fabric scissors: #gingherscissors are my favorite because they stay sharp for a looooong time 4. Seam rippers (get different sizes and have at least 3, so you’re not frustrated after making a mistake) 5. Little scissors - it’s much better then bigger scissors to cut your small loose threads 6. Markers and chalk (friction pens work too) 7. Good thread - don’t waste money buying cheap thread because they will break going into your machine. I use gutermann, coat & Clark’s, or mettler thread. 8. Measuring tape and 8th Bevel ruler 18”x 2” (great to add seam allowances and mark patterns) 9. Masking tape and magnet seam guides to make it easier to sew straight on your machine 10. Iron: I’ve used fancy irons before and home irons that steams works almost the same in my opinion. (Use iron-on cleaner to clean) .
