There are alternatives to the 🎈 There is something so therapeutic about watching something drift away in the sky, float out to sea, or grow in the ground. It can feel like an extension of your connection to your person who died, a way to transfer messages/hopes/wishes. While releasing a 🎈can be so special and healing to watch, we all know that it’s not the best for the environment. These ideas can be just as healing and therapeutic. There is one idea listed on here that while biodegradable, still is not the best option for our earth (the biodegradable lanterns). For years our family drew pictures and wrote messages on these and let them float to the sky. We learned that in our state they are actually not legal to release (due to fire risks), so we had to decide to choose another route for our yearly release ritual. At first I felt like I mourned that activity being taken away. I wondered if other avenues would feel as healing. These other ways can be just as healing. I promise. There are so many ways to connect, remember, honor, heal, and release. Sometimes we just need to try something different.
