5 things to know before catching the sunrise at Haleakalā National Park in Maui!! 🌞💛Seeing the sunrise over the clouds (& at the top of a volcano!!) was one of the most surreal experience I’ve ever had. 📌Save this video if you plan to go yourself because trust me, a little prep goes a long way… 1. The drive 🚘 There are some seriously windy and dark roads leading up to the volcano. In many cases, you can’t see past the bend of the road and have to use your high beams for visibility. If you’re not comfortable driving in these conditions, make sure you’re traveling with someone else who is! 2. Arrival time ⏱️ With a ticket purchase, you can enter the national park for sunrise viewing as early as 3AM. I recommended getting there at least 90 minutes before the sun is set to rise. Photos didn’t do it justice, but the stars are STUNNINGLY bright and vivid when the sky is pitch black outside. Absolutely unreal. It’s worth the early alarm. 3. Layers!!!🥶 Dress warm. Can’t stress this enough. It might be Hawaii, but at 10,000 feet up, it was 36 degrees and v windy. Gloves, scarf, and ear protection are all needed as is at least three layers of clothing on the rest of your body. 😅 4. Warm Drinks & Snacks ☕️ Pack a thermos with something hot—our ginger tea was a lifesaver considering my boyfriend and I were severely underdressed🥲 And since there’s nowhere to buy food or drinks in the area, bring your own snacks if you get hungry in the morning. 5. Reservations 🎟️ This is crucial!! The sunrise viewing on the volcano is very popular. You’ll need a ticket for vehicle parking during sunrise as well as a ticket to enter the national park. Reservations for the vehicle parking open 60 days in advance‼️ They release half the tickets then and the rest of the tickets 48 hours before the date. The tickets sold out in 2 minutes when I went to purchase ours 48 hours in advance, so set a reminder on your calendar to not miss out on this mandatory ticket! . #HaleakalaSunrise #Haleakala #sunrise #thingsiwishiknew #thingstodoinmaui #Maui #hawaii #visithawaii #visitmaui #traveltips #travelbucketlist #traveltiktok
