🌖 Night blooming flowers for night pollinators. They open usually between 4-5 pm, hence the name 4 o’clocks. The main pollinator for this plant is the sphinx moth. They are perennials here in zone 8b (hardy zones 7-10) Four o’clocks, (Mirabilis jalapa) My first 4 o’clocks of the season started blooming tonight. I have other colors but these are the first to start. Fun facts: “generally grown as an annual throughout most of the US. Native to tropical South America in the Andes – and also sometimes called Marvel of Peru – it is the most commonly grown ornamental species of Mirabilis. Discovered by Europeans in 1540, the root was used by indigenous peoples for medicinal purposes, as a hallucinogen, and as a purported aphrodisiac, while the flowers produce an edible red dye for coloring food.” - https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/four-oclocks-mirabilis-jalapa/ #4oclock #fouroclock #4oclockflowers #nightbloom #nightflower #moongarden #nightpollinator #moth #mirabilis #mirabilisjalapa #moon #moonmagic #nightgarden
