This was an easy and budget friendly way to add some charm to our backyard. It’s still a work in progress but we are getting there. An arbor adds such a beatiful focal point to any garden and is so easy to #DIY! We used all treated lumber: 6x6 posts, 8” wide ledgers, and 2x2 decorative top pieces. Steps: 1. Cut rabbet joints on the posts for ledgers to rest on. 2. Dig holes at least two feet deep and add cement. Cure over 24 hours. 3. Attach ledgers to posts using carriage bolts. 4. Add all the decorative pieces. We added diagonal cuts to add some design and a more finished look. 5. Add some greenery to climb the posts. Full tutorial is on my youtube! @ diygemini

Here we go again! We planted 20 arborvitaes. Our hope is that the shrubs will eventually block their cameras from seeing into my property. This morning we noticed that all the grass behind the arborvitaes is dead. The dead patches look like they’re from an herbicide spray. We are getting a soil sample to confirm.
