How do we learn what's going on under the shell of a close to century old Aldabra Tortoise named Gigi? Some careful prep and a CT Scan at our Vet Hospital of course! Our team got some amazing images that showed she has some arthritis in her shoulders and elbows, but doesn't appear to be severe at this time. She also has evidence of follicle development, so she still is actively making eggs - pretty remarkable for being nearly 100 years old! #vettales #tortoise #ctscan

Being around these gentle giants just makes me smile! They are such peaceful animals. To clarify, the Aldabra tortoise has a more narrow head whereas the Galapagos tortoise has a wider broad head and lacks the nuchal scute that the Aldabra has.
