The most common thing I hear from stay-at-home parents is they feel like they lose their identity.

They become so immersed in their role as a parent that it’s difficult to even take care of themselves.

Let’s focus on who you are. I’ve got 4 tips on how to maintain your sense of self while being a parent:

🟡 Keep your identity
You’re not just a mom or dad. You’re a complex human being that has more interest and roles in life than being a parent. Maintain your interests and keep searching for new hobbies.

🟡 Embrace your circumstances
Make the most with the season of life you’re in. This may be a hard transition, but just know it won’t always be like this. There are opportunities even in this stage of life.

🟡 Routine
Create a structure for yourself and your kids. It will help the days go by so much faster and give you a sense of purpose.

🟡 Communicate with your spouse
You don’t have to go at this alone. Communicate, talk, and share with your spouse what you’re experiencing, and work together on ways they can support you.

If you found these tips helpful, check out my most recent podcast Episode 28: Rethinking Parenting Roles with Lyndsey and Brian Durst. I go more in-depth with a couple who chose to have the husband stay at home. They offer fantastic insights and experiences that you won’t want to miss.
