In december of 1915, Australian troops were pinned and all hope seemed lost. However, Corporal William Scurry invents what is called the "drip rifle". Water slowly drips into a tank tied to the trigger of a rifle fixed on the trench, and every time the water would get to a certain weight, the rifle would fire. This made it seem as if the Australian troops were still in the trenches, but they were actually retreating. This invention saved around 80,000 troops from certain death, and Scurry was promoted to Sergeant. #history #fyp #army #WWI #WWi #decoy
