In celebration of the 77th Philippine-Brazil Friendship Day, the Embassy of Brazil, the ACB, Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines (DFA), Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME), and the University of the Philippines-Los Baños conducted a tree planting activity at the Makiling Botanic Gardens, located at the foot of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve, one of the ASEAN Heritage Parks.
ACB Executive Director Dr. Theresa Mundita Lim led the other dignitaries — the Embassy of Brazil Ambassador Antonio Jose Maria de Souza e Silva, DFA Assistant Secretary José Victor Chan Gonzaga, MCME Director Lerma SJ Maldia and Deputy Director Juancho Balatibat, and UPLB Vice Chancellor for Admissions Rolando Bello — in planting seedlings provided by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources CALABARZON.
Aligned with the ASEAN Green Initiative that promotes the planting of at least 10 million native trees in 10 ASEAN Member States in a span of 10 years, the dignitaries planted Philippine endemic and native species such as red lauan (𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴), yakal (𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢 𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘢), and agapitong (𝘋𝘪𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘱#ASEANCentreforBiodiversity 𝘴).
