Red velvet cake heart truffles 💌🍫❤️
These are the perfect bite sized sweet treat!
RECIPE (makes 16 truffles)
INGREDIENTS
• 3 cups (390 g) Red velvet cake crumbs (left over or freshly baked, one cake layer is enough)(link for the recipe in bio!)
• 5-6 tbsp cream cheese frosting or more if needed
• 200 g (1 1/4 cup) dark chocolate (54%) or semi sweet or milk chocolate
• 2 tsp coconut oil, To make chocolate coating thin & smooth
• 3-4 tbsp white chocolate to drizzle on top
• 1-2 drops of red food gel colour
• Heart shape small cookie cutter
DIRECTIONS
1. Crumble the cake into very small pieces in a large bowl.
2. Gradually add cream cheese frosting and mix with a rubber spatula until the mixture is well combined. It should be moist and have dough like consistency but not too wet or greasy. If you don’t have cream cheese frosting in hand, you can add simple cream cheese (softened) or even chocolate ganache (melt chocolate + double cream in the microwave in 2:1 ratio).
3. Transfer to a 9x9 inch tray lined with parchment paper and press it evenly.
4. Pop in the freezer for 20 minutes or until firm.
5. Use a heart shape cookie cutter to make heart shaped truffles and transfer to a tray or plate lined with parchment paper. Pop in the freezer for 20-30 mins or until set. Re roll the scrap and repeat the same procedure to make more hearts.
6. Melt dark chocolate + coconut oil in the microwave in 30 seconds intervals, stir well in between each interval until completely melted and smooth.
7. Dip each heart truffle in the chocolate to cover completely, use a fork to let any excess chocolate to drip off. Repeat with the rest.
8. pop in the freezer just for 5 minutes.
9. Melt white chocolate, add few drops of red food gel colour and drizzle on top of each truffle. Sprinkle some red velvet cake dusting or cake crumbs. Enjoy! 🥰
