When a couple first stepped into this Park Slope brownstone in early 2017, the building was in a state of disrepair. Yet the duo, who launched the reno and restoration firm Branca & Co., thankfully saw the 1890 home’s potential. With our home we were gifted the grandfather clock. We were told that it was “original to the house”.
Got to love estate agents haven’t you?
Anyway, Colin’s an engineer - he loves an old object and I have nothing against an old grandfather so we were pretty chuffed at the time. Then … a couple of months after moving in we decided to pull the clock back and an envelope falls out. The invoice for the clock. I’m pretty sure that in 1775 they didn’t have printers, computers or even colour photos with an internet listing of clocks. So, Alo and behold, it isn’t original to the house BUT it was built in the 17th century AND fate has it, in the same town that Colin and I bought our first home in Oxfordshire.
