14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can such faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food,
16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it?

God is the provider of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17). However, if you treasure the gift above the giver you end up creating an idol, and use Christ as a means of worshiping your true God. If you lost everything God has ever given you, would you still consider it a gain because you have Christ?
You must come to the place where you can say along with the Apostle Paul,
“Whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him…” Philippians 3
