🍕 Pizza makes everything better - so we made another deep dish pizza to kick off 2023 on a delicious note!
The recipe below makes 2 deep dish 9-inch pizzas.
🫓 Ingredients - Pizza Crust:
3 & 1/4 cups flour
1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
1 & 1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
2 & 1/4 tsp yeast
1 & 1/4 cups slightly warm water
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup butter, softened
olive oil for coating
🍅 Ingredients - Tomato Sauce:
2 tbsp butter
1 small onion, grated
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
3 garlic cloves, minced
one 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
1/4 tsp sugar
🧀 Ingredients - Toppings:
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
Sweet sausage, pepperoni, chorizo
1️⃣ Start with the crust. Combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, sugar, and yeast in the bowl. Add warm water (90°F) and 1/4 cup of melted butter and mix well. Cover and allow to rise for 1-2h.
2️⃣ Roll the dough into a large 15×12 inch rectangle. Spread 1/4 cup of softened butter on top of the dough. Roll it up lengthwise & cut the dough log in half. Form into 2 balls and allow to rise in the fridge for 1 hour.
3️⃣ Preheat oven to 425°F. Roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle. Place over a 9×2 inch deep dish cake pan. Repeat with 2nd dough. Brush the top edges with olive oil. Fill each pizza with 2 cups/8 oz of mozzarella, add toppings you want and top with the sauce - 1 & 1/4 cups per pizza. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup parmesan cheese. Bake for 20-28 min and let rest for 10 min before slicing.
