Moraine Lake in Banff National Park is MAGICAL!
…it’s also incredibly hard to get to.
There is a small parking lot. Once the lot is nearly full, the park service shuts down the entire road to the lake, which oftentimes happens well before sunrise.
When we tried at 5:00 am one morning, we were too late. However, we got lucky for sunset later in the day. Although the road was still blocked, the park employees would let individual cars down as single cars exited. After a few attempts, we won the “golden ticket” and were able to make it to Moraine.
I have heard that rules are changing in 2023 and single cars won’t be allowed anymore. Be sure to check the Parks Canada website for updated information before your visit!
Once you get to the lake, be sure to climb the short walk up the steps of the rock pile. That will offer you the best views. It’s absolutely beautiful!
