A fall several years ago resulted in a cracked vertebrae that relegated her to a walker. Merce had always been independent so she was eager to regain her mobility, but both she and her son Mark were frustrated with what they were being told by physicians and specialists. Mark had a suspicion that getting stronger could help his mom, so he brought her out to an open house and the rest is history.
All of the barbell movements can be modified to meet a trainee’s capabilities. And everyone…yes, EVERYONE, can get stronger. Merce started with a very high rack pull (just a few inches in range of motion) at 11 pounds. She’s shown up for every session, worked hard, and just last week she pulled 53 pounds from the floor….smiling the whole time in traditional Merce fashion ❤️❤️❤️
We see so many amazing transformations at our gym in trainees young and old that it has become routine to us. But it doesn’t make these stories any less incredible to those outside our community. Thank you Merce! Your hard work and bright smile are a wonderful inspiration to our members. And another big thanks to the amazing coaches that have helped get Merce to this huge milestone…Adam Martin, Camisha Noble, Marie Worsham, Tony Maldonado, and all the rest of our apprentices.
