DID YOU KNOW?
The cassowary is the second heaviest and the third tallest bird in the world. It is one of the closest living species to dinosaurs, and is critical in maintaining the biodiversity of the rainforest by dispersing fruit seeds over great distances. The southern cassowary is only found in parts of Papua New Guinea and the north-east of Australia.
If you’re lucky you can spot one in the wild while in TNQ, or you can learn more about this incredible species (and help feed them!) at Hartleys Creek Crocodile Farm.
Take the time to check out the wonders of TNQ after the North Queensland DanceSport Championships - 7 & 8 July! #nqdancechamps #cometocairns23 #wheretherainforestmeetsthereef #tropicalnorthqueensland
