I am here today doing an inspection in Keilor park Victoria. The inspection is for two driveways that may be non-compliant.
after the concretor received the report he said that he was happy to rectify some of the defects but the rest of the defects are just a recommendation and not a requirement!
LETSSS GO
The Fall
A datasheet provided by Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia, Residential Concrete Driveways Paths published in December 2017 notes to allow adequate drainage of the surface the recommended minimum grade or cross fall for pavement is generally 1 in 100. External paving must fall away from the home. There is inadequate fall on the paving and it does not discharge to the drainage points and is considered defective.
Isolation joints
AS 3727.1 2016 5.4.3 Isolation joints
Isolation joints shall be provided where a pavement abuts a building or other rigid structure such as a drainage pit or access hole.
Isolation joints shall extend the full depth of the pavement And allow freedom of movement both vertically and horizontally between the pavement and the structure and resist the entrance of detritus.
Thickness: the concretor did not even follow the engineering drawings which state a minimum of 100mm.
AS 3727.1 2016 Clause 5.2 BASE
The concrete base shall be in accordance with the following:
(a) Thickness, concrete grade, joint spacing and reinforcement shall be in accordance with Table 5.2.
It looks like Concretor may have to return to the job to remove all the concrete pavement and pour the driveway in accordance with the engineering drawings and relevant Australian standards.
