Canoeing on Whitson Lake, south Algonquin on July 31st 2022 and spotted what i thought was a beast of a fish at about 10:30am. It turned out to be a sturgeon. My paddling partner was fishing, but we would not want to harm this magnificient creature because they fulfill an important role in the lake ecosystem. They are also on the endangered species act and it is illegal to fish for sturgeon in Ontario. This sturgeon was about 2.5 feet long, slowly cruising in shallow water right under our canoe and was a sight to see!! The other people in our group seen some more than just one, but this is the clearest video I took.
