Rescuers pull out all the stops to save not one, but two elephants, trapped side by side in a drying dam. As the drought, in parts of Kenya, intensifies water points risk becoming a muddy prison for elephants. Coming to drink, they can easily lose their footing and once swallowed by the mud, they can not extract themselves. Visit our website to read more about this double rescue & to support our work at this difficult time (link in bio) #elephants #drought #mud #rescue #animalrescue #wildlife #saveanimals #fyp #animals #kenya
Meet Raha! We’ve been waiting for the right moment to introduce you to this precious orphaned black rhino, whose name means joy in Swahili.
She came to us in September 2022, after Ol Pejeta Conservancy scouts discovered her all alone. She had extensive injuries to her nether regions; these are believed to be the result of jackals, who’d attacked her when she was all alone and unable to defend herself. Our priority since then has been to help her heal and to support her well-being. At last, we feel she's out of the most precarious stage of her recovery and we can't wait for you to fall in love with her, as have our Keepers & all of us!
We will share about Raha’s rescue and recovery in the days to come, but for now, we thought you might enjoy witnessing her daily evening trot back to her stable! She often has a spring in her step at this time, as she knows one of her Keepers will have a warm bottle of milk ready for her to enjoy.
If you want to discover her full story now (and become one of her very first adopters!) tap the link in our profile, or visit: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/raha

During a routine aerial patrol, one of our pilots spotted this elephant had a poison arrow wound to his back.
Our Operations Room coordinated a treatment. Collecting a KWS Vet, our helicopter headed to the location and with the elephant sighted again, the vet could dart him from his elevated position. It was then all-hands on deck to treat the wound and get this big chap back on his feet.
The vet is confident that this early intervention will mean the elephants makes a full recovery. He's one of over 3,200 elephants our SWT/KWS Veterinary Project has attended to. Find out more on our website (link in bio)
