Coach Perry Hill is known to be an infield genius in the MLB. What I love about this video is his simple yet complex description of double play
feeds and why giving your second baseman or shortstop an uphill feed is crucial.
-Uphill feeds are important for the receiver to be able to read the angle of the thrown or flipped ball as soon as it leaves the hand. Uphill flips also lead to a better connection between infielders on double plays.

Shortstop: Double Play Throw
On ball hit to your right side. Field the ball on the right side of your body.
Move in a direct line to the baseball/softball instead of trying to work around it. This allows the ball to flow right into the throwing slot.
The throw should always work around the spine……When you field the ball, field with a flat back and throw the ball around the same spine angle that you fielded with.
You can rise up with your chest in order to give your arm room to work. But do not stand straight up, and make sure to maintain a tilted chest-angle so that you can: give the second baseman an uphill feed, and avoid wasting movement/time.

Do not funnel the ball: on a flip play simply flip the ball right from the spot where you catch it.
The funnel is typically used in preparation for a throw. Since no throw is involved and this play must be made as quickly as possible. Just catch and release.
Additionally… do not close the glove on a ball hit right at you. Secure the ball with both hands and get the flip out immediately.
