💈Why do we leave a saddle patch on some horses?💈 with @Liveryman_ Some horses have more sensitive skin than others, and could be prone to rubs from the saddle. Whilst this could be an indication that the saddle may not fit correctly, it can also just be the fact your horse has sensitive skin. 📍(If you haven’t had your saddle checked by a qualified fitter recently, I would recommend having it checked to be on the safe side).📍 So, to help combat this, we can leave hair - making sure that the hair will extent to the back of the saddle and pad that you’re using is important. Another thing that you can do is look at what saddlecloth you are using. Sometimes the binding or seams can be the cause of the rubbing. I find sheepskin pads directly on the back of the horse is the best way to stop these rubs. I also like to make sure that there is hair still covering the top of the withers. Some horses can end up with sores from rugs, and the hair seems to help stop this.
