I did all the pretty bird calls as well as many of the raucous jungle sounds. Many separate recordings were made which were then blended together on a single sound track. Those “Ghost House” blueprints are from Ken Anderson, who wrote several scripts for the Haunted Mansion back in the late 1950s, all of them walk-through concepts until Disney developed the technology and knowledge about capacity and how to move people through faster (aka the omnimover, or Doom Buggy as they are called in the Mansion).
Yale Gracey is also the one responsible for the Pepper’s Ghost effect used in the ballroom. Growing up, he had several volumes of The Boy Mechanic that taught him how to make simple machines. The illustrations in it are similar to the ones I showed here, which are part of a 3-page list of effects planned for (or actually used in) the Haunted Mansion.
I love that Yale took his idea and used it multiple places, even though it was planned differently in the beginning. Sometimes necessity of change makes us think outside the box and grows us in ways we didn’t know we needed.
