Families have kids with disabilities that don’t align with what they understand and that just the facts of life. From the deaf/hoh pov it’s the way we have to learn how to deal with. Some have it harder than other. The world however, is different. The audacity that oozes out of a hearie just because it’s “#trend” is beyond me! You could had actually been COOL with another language in your back pocket but you rather look like a fool. Until you can understand what it’s like to go through a silent struggle in this “perfect” world then you have no room to speak! Until you’re shoved to the next room because you asked too many questions you don’t know. Until you’re blatantly. ignored in the check out line because you’re asking “huh” once too many time, you don’t know. Until you’re deliberately picked to be set aside and left out of MULTIPLE outings, parties, SIMPLE CONVERSATIONS of big groups because you’re too much of a nuisance to deal with over the “huh?”, then you don’t know. Until you’ve been denied service as BOTH a customer AND an employee because deaf apparently equals stupid, then you don’t know. Until you been face with multiple job discriminations over your the fact you wear hearing aids then no you don’t know. Until ppl come up to you and start mocking you in your face and gaslight you on what you “didn’t hear” when you try to report them esp when it comes to being SA’d !!! THEN YOU ABSOLUTELY DO NOT!!! I’m sick and tired of the obvious disrespect and y’all saying our experiences are nothing. The way you use our language is a part of our culture and a part of our experience and it ties us in every unique aspect of our lives!! Stop it please!! Just learn the language and be at peace !!
