Close up shots from: Johfra, The adoration of Pan, oil on panel, 190 x 300 cm / 74.8 x 118.1 inch, 1979. Johfra started painting this triptych on the 17th of June 1978 and finished it on the 3rd of January 1979. In his journal he wrote: “My new style announces itself within The adoration of Pan. This painting is the breakthrough and zenith in the realization of my new direction that I have envisioned for many years.” Johfra made a conscious decision to explore more subjects in ancient mythology and occult sources after he felt like the art world saw him purely as an esoteric artist after gathering recognition from his Zodiac series in the mid 70s. Throughout his life he studied many scriptures ranging from religion and ancient mythology to the occult and surrealistic modernists. We had the absolute privilege to uncover this masterpiece from storage and study it in detail.
