TikTok
Exercising your right to object to the processing of your personal data

What is your right to object?

If you are a TikTok user living in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you have the legal right to object at any time to the processing of your personal data where TikTok's legal basis for the processing activity is either:

  • necessary for the purposes of TikTok's legitimate interests or the legitimate interests of a third party; or
  • necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest.

If we process your personal data for direct marketing purposes, regardless of the legal basis we rely on, you have the right to object to such processing at any time.

How to submit an objection?

You can submit an objection to the processing of your personal data by using this form.

Please select the option "Make an objection to the processing of my data".

  • In the "Provide details" section, please provide all relevant information, including:
    • the processing activity you are objecting to;
    • why you want to object and how the processing activity affects you; and
    • any additional information that you think will help us review your request.

For more details about how we use personal data and our legal bases for processing your personal data, please see the "Our Legal Bases and How We Process Your Information" of our Privacy Policy.

What happens after I submit an objection?

We will review your submission and let you know the outcome of your objection. To help us review your objection, please make sure you include as much information as possible.

Factors that we will consider when reviewing your objection include: the reasonable expectations you may have; risks and benefits to you, us, other users, or third parties; and whether there are less privacy intrusive means that achieve the same purpose and do not require a disproportionate effort.

If your objection is successful

If your objection is successful, we will cease processing your information pursuant to your objection.

If your objection is unsuccessful

  • If your objection is unsuccessful, we will give you our reasons for not granting it. These reasons may be that:
    • you have insufficiently explained your objection, are not objecting to a specific processing activity, or have not provided specific grounds for the objection.
    • after carrying out a balancing test, we have decided that your interests or fundamental rights or freedoms do not outweigh our legitimate interests (or those of a third party).
    • we are not relying on legitimate interest or task carried out in the public interest as a legal basis for the processing activity you are objecting to.

If we deny your objection, you may choose to lodge a complaint with TikTok Ireland's lead supervisory authority, the Irish Data Protection Commission, or your local data protection supervisory authority.
