A very emotional moment. The David Von Erich Memorial Parade of Champions at Texas Stadium was held just over 3 months after his death. Kevin Von Erich had vowed that one of his brothers would win the belt in David's honour. Dave Meltzer tweeted that this match was "one of my favorite wrestling memories live". It was very hot, with the event being held in 105f weather. Flair told Busted Open Radio: "There were carrying people out on stretchers from dehydration. The mat cover was — when I got in the ring with Kerry, and we were last, the mat cover was still, you just couldn't lay on it." Sadly Kerry's reign would only last 18 days, losing it back to the Nature Boy in Japan. Flair claimed on Wooooo! Nation that he missed his first match as champ: "If there's any truth in the history, there are obvious reasons why he may have missed it, but once again, the greatest kid in the world, but we all have our demons."
