To further explain I’m sitting in what used to be a Russian tree line in a Russian trench we took days prior to this video being taken. They were extremely well equipped, with generators, clothes and food, those that fled left behind an easy million dollars worth of equipment, including personal weapons and memorabilia, the Russians dig pretty nice trenches, and thank goodness for that because I hate digging trenches, it’s nicer when we can just commandeer the Russian ones. Everyone was down in deeper trenches, we usually have a rule of 2, once you hear 2 rounds anywhere close everyone gets low. The trench I’m sitting in at the time of this video is an observation position, that’s why it’s not so deep, and with shrapnel being such an issue Is why I was using some spare helmets to cover my knees, you have to have someone on watch regardless of the munitions being thrown your way, especially when the enemy is 400-1000 meters away at any given time! we were told to hold this position so our right flank could catch up in the assault as most of the front line has to move forward together, you can’t always keep going forwards otherwise your either too far extended or you’ll leave a gap where you can get flanked and the assault fails! Everything is about reaching unilateral mission success while also trying to mitigate losses. I have no doubt the munitions benign thrown our way serve the duel purpose of psychological warfare. As I said in the video we do and would rather assault everyday then hold a line and get shelled to shit! I pray a lot, and I can’t tell you how many times I wished I could shrink my size to be much smaller, if you listen closely you can hear shrapnel flying through the air, I would say the majority of deaths and injuries comes from shrapnel, and the constant problem of men receiving reoccurring contusions. The noise and pressure can be quite intense. I do believe later this does have a great effect on the psychology of men, everyone reacts to these things differently. Some men have inspiring grit, others lose themselves inside a bottle! When your soldiers return home be patient with them, help them find a mission, and if appropriate nurture them!
