🍋3 tips for making your mini lemon tree into a bonsai…or just successfully growing citrus in a pot👇 Sandy soil: citrus likes drainage more than anything! Use a cactus mix and ammend with 30-40% horticultural sand. Water: now your tree has excellent drainage you can water more often, and very deeply. The roots will take up the water they need and the rest will drain away quickly which will promote healthy flowers, foliage & fruit. Bonsai style: to achieve that rugged tree aesthetic, gradually brush away soil from the top revealing the roots. They will harden when exposed to air and you will begin seeing that gnarled root look. Be patient! The pink lemon has been in training for 4 years already. This time the trunk has been getting thick (but not tall due to being constrained to the pot) and a curve has been gently molded into the trunk using wire.
