Including the “background” it takes 6 shuttles to weave 4 colors. Each section gets its own shuttle. It could be done with each color getting its own shuttle, but then there would be some major floats in the back, and on this scale that would result in a goodly portion of wasted threads. It’s sort of like tapestry weaving but within a pattern. This is a a very sped up version of Reversible Finnweave - a double weave technique. Many of you would know it as “pick up” but I’m learning that there are many different types of double weave pick up so I think using the proper terminology is important. 🤓 For Those That Want To Know: I am working on a sampler and practicing 4-shaft, double weave techniques. This is Reversible Finnweave - a type of “pick up” method. I’m using 4/8 Brassards cotton sett at 24 (12 per layer) and working on a Louet Jane 40 table loom. I’m making a larger bubble in the weft to make sure there is enough to smoosh round everything that is going on. I pick up the warp ends I need with a knitting needle - I find it easier to work with because it’s so smooth and easy to manipulate. On a table loom, and with this technique, the shed is narrow and not always obvious. Before I throw the shuttle I’m sliding in a pick up stick to make sure I have the correct shed and to prevent skips. This video shows all 4 steps required to complete one sequence.
