Replying to @🤍 one year update. That day was terrifiying. Not because he snapped at me or that he could have hurt me…but because if this was his issue, how could I justify keeping him. If a sanctuary couldnt take him I had to seriously consider his happiness and well being. That same day I learned that even though he could hurt me he choose not to. And throughout the year I would continue to learn that he did not mean me any harm. Now when he reacts that way I straight up cuddle his face and coo him to calm down. There is no alpha, and it does not make you weak to deescalate. After an insanely difficult year, we made it through. I gained so much trust that he wouldnt hurt me. Our communication grew and I was able to help him with everything that caused him pain. His paw pads, his teeth. I am beyond thankful that it worked out. My heart is with the pups that found more peace in sleep. There is no shame in making a decision that puts the animals emotional and physical state first. I hope the community can be kinder to those in impossible situations. I am so thankful for every kind comment that supported my insane goal of helping this sweet boy heal. Thank you.
