🌿It’s elderberry season here in Minnesota! Before you pick, make sure to correctly identify the plant. There are several varieties out there with berry colors ranging from red to black and blue to maroon. Also, don’t eat the berries raw! They look so delicious and juicy, but they are toxic in their raw form. Once they are cooked down into elderberry syrup, they are no longer toxic, don’t worry! I like to freeze the berries immediately so that I can make fresh elderberry syrup once cold & flu season comes around 💫. Feel free to make syrup right away if you’d like to!
