The NAACP issued a former travel advisory for Florida, citing what they called Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “aggressive attempts to erase Black history and to restrict diversity, equity and inclusion programs in Florida schools.” The notice says the state is “openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ.” DeSantis has banned critical race theory in schools, as well as an AP African American Studies course. LGBTQ and Latin American groups have issued similar advisories. This comes right as DeSantis is entering the 2024 presidential race. Republicans in the Montana House voted to bar transgender State Rep. Zooey Zephyr for the rest of the 2023 session.
Zephyr was punished for rebuking her colleagues for banning gender-affirming medical care for children.
The vote came after her supporters protested Republicans who blocked her from participating in the debate, bringing the House session to a halt.
