I fell in love with @oceansidecalifornia , it is such an under-the-radar California beach town.
Two decades ago this was a working class, blue-collar and military town that could get a little rough and tumble downtown on the weekends.
.
Then the town introduced the Thursday Sunset Market, which currently draws in 6,000-9,000 visitors a week, 51 weeks of the year. It features about 100 thoughtfully-curated food vendors representing foods from around the world, and approximately 100 retail vendors. The Market, which runs from 5 - 9pm, offers locals and visitors a chance to mingle and enjoy live music and children's activities, as well as eat some great food.
.
Since the introduction of the market, the town has transformed and now features two upscale hotels (the Mission Pacific and The Seabird), along with a new historic boutique hotel (The Brick Hotel) as well as vacation rentals and family-friendly properties.
.
The beach is popular with surfers and training grounds for the USA Surfing team, and home to the California Surf Museum. We enjoyed activities like rooftop yoga, biking on The Strand, visiting the Top Gun house, and exploring the Oceanside Museum of Art.
.
What totally blew my mind was the dolphin encounter we had with Oceanside Adventures when we ran across a megapod of thousands of dolphins frolicking around the boat. Truly incredible!
.
The dining in Oceanside is also on point with so many great options from casual to fine dining. Brunch is definitely a highlight, as well as stops along the O'side trail with local wineries, breweries, and coffee shops. Just save room for dessert from Parlor Doughnuts.
.
Getting to Oceanside can also be very easy as you can ride the Amtrak train right from San Diego or Los Angeles straight into the downtown. Being in sunny California and watching the palm trees and waves definitely helped me get through winter!
.
Have you ever heard of Oceanside? Does it sound like your kind of place?
