My largest mushroom cap to date, 10 hour print time using 2 tubes of clay. You can see the transition at the 3 hour mark between the first and second tube, where I need to pause the print at the exact moment during the second to last gill layer to hide the transition as much as possible. The printing process of my Clay printed mushroom—the star pattern on the inside is structural— it provides a surface to connect the cap to the stem, much like gills of a real mushroom. It also helps increase the weight of the mushroom stem which gives it a lower center of gravity and makes it less “tippy” without making the base too chunky. I light the interior, to accentuate the interior glaze so the interior cylinder is also used to wire an LED light. This reel also shows the finished piece because many comments on earlier reels doubt that the 3d printed clay can survive the kiln firing. It does! I bisc to 05, spray glaze, and then fire to cone 5. In architecture school, color and color theory were practically verboten. Even our required 1st year drawing class was all black and white. I have always been fascinated by color theory. Color exists everywhere in nature and can have the power to change our emotions. Applying colors to forms created using traditional architecture software—is a way for me to explore color’s relationship to form and function more intentionally. In architecture school, color and color theory were practically verboten. Even our required 1st year drawing class was all black and white. I have always been fascinated by color theory. Color exists everywhere in nature and can have the power to change our emotions.
