I have a candle company in which I donate 30% of the profit back to animal rescue. ⠀
In 2023, I have felt called to make an even bigger impact through fundraising for animal rescues who are making a difference in addition to the funding that we donate from our profits. ⠀

The Gifted Equine is a grassroots equine rescue based in the heart of Ohio. Small, but mighty. They attend these auctions, where horses are stripped of their name and are reduced to an assigned number and transactional receipt. ⠀
⠀
They go for them - to try to save lives. One at a time, one life at a time, they make a difference. ⠀
⠀
The harsh reality is that in the United States, most of the horses, donkeys, and mules who end up in the cruel auction industry will end up in kill pens. They will be transported across the border and ultimately end up with the fate of an inhumane death.⠀
⠀
For thousands of years, our equine companions have served us. They do all that we ask of them. They keep our children safe on pony rides, they porter our goods, they have plowed our fields and carried us through war. They have sacrificed all for us.⠀
⠀
And they deserve more than this. More than such abhorrent treatment and a death of such cruel nature. ⠀
⠀
The goal is to raise 10,000 dollars for The Gifted Equine so when they attend one of the largest horse auctions in Bowie, TX at the beginning of May, that they have funding to save some lives. ⠀

One of the things I struggle with is the harsh reality that no matter how much I do, how many hours I put in, how many candles or apparel items I sell, how much I give – it will never be enough. ⠀
That is to say - I can’t save them all. ⠀
⠀
I think anyone who works in the rescue arena combats this, the vicious cycle of it. ⠀
I brought this up to my mentor one day, tearful and feeling defeated, and he reminded me of this story I tell in the video. ⠀
We may not be able to save them all, we might not be able to change the world in its entirety – but we change the world for one at a time. ⠀
⠀
So, when the days get hard and I think to myself, “this is hopeless” I metaphorically pick up another starfish and throw it back in. One save at a time. One donation at a time. One dog, one horse, one life at a time.⠀
⠀
And the beauty of it, even though we might not be able to make it in time for all of them, the more we do this work - the more people that show up and start to help to metaphorically pick up starfish and throw them back. The impact begins to double, then triple, it’s exponential. The power of one can equal the power of many.⠀
We can make a difference. We ARE making a difference. ⠀
Just keep going. It all matters, and so do they⠀

July 24, 2021 was my last nursing shift ever. I took a leap of faith and left my nursing career. I left my security and all that I knew to fully invest my time and energy into WilsonHaus.⠀⠀

I started WilsonHaus with the mission to give back, to save lives that otherwise might not have had a chance. ⠀
When I left my nursing career – I did not know HOW I was going to make this work. I just knew that I could. That if I put my full heart into it and kept sharing our story that it would work out. I didn’t⠀entertain the notion of “what if this doesn’t work out,” only, “what if it DOES?” I focused on the possibility and the mission. ⠀
⠀
Yes, there has been fear, failures, sacrifice and a lot of tears on the way. But they pale in comparison to the triumphs, joy and lives saved. We have saved lives through this work. Sometimes I have to pinch myself.⠀
⠀
When I look back at where we started and where we are – it is truly astounding. And it is only possible because of you. ⠀
The truth is that WilsonHaus could not exist without you. Each and every one of you have made this possible. Thank you for being a part of this – nothing great is built alone – and this community is what makes the wheels turn. ⠀
⠀
Sharing this is also meant to serve as possibly a kernel of inspiration. A seed, if you will. I am not any different than you. If there has been something on your heart – it is there for a reason. It is not chance, it is not random, it is not coincidence. You have gifts and talents and interests – and they are all meant to converge. One of my favorite quotes is,⠀"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." As Michael Beckwith says, “there is no shelf life on gifts or talent” You can turn those chips in at any time. ⠀
You are a unique set of skills, personality traits, natural talents – all of which are meant to be shared with the world. ⠀

You are not the risk – you are the investment. Amazing things can happen when you give yourself a chance. ⠀

Day 3 of trying to make this goal happen. Raising 5,000 dollars for animal rescue. I am dedicated to making this happen. I have to make this happen.⠀
What does 5,000 mean? It means second chances.⠀
⠀
It means the injured, discarded dog dumped on the desolate gravel road in Texas might have a chance. ⠀
⠀
It means the pregnant mama dog caged in a tiny crate might finally get the love she had so desperately yearned for. A place to safely deliver the puppies she never asked for, but will love and care for nonetheless. ⠀
⠀
It means the horse who spent 23 years giving its life to keeping small children safe on commercialized trail rides – who was then turned around and sold to a slaughter pen when it could no longer do its job– can be saved by a rescue – and not end up on a crowded, hot trailer destined for the border and a cruel and heinous end.⠀
⠀
It means dogs like Lewis who are in desperate need of medical attention and placed on the the euthanasia list can have their life spared. Not only spared, but given the chance to really LIVE⠀
It means dogs like Wilson – who were beaten, neglected, and broken by the most vile humans may never have to cower in fear again.⠀
⠀
It means the 8 month old puppy nearly starved, wandering as a stray because neglectful humans failed to keep their promise of safety⠀- might finally have a fully belly, a warm bed, and for the first time ever – a toy of their very own. ⠀
⠀
That is what 5,000 dollars means. Hope. Love. Rescue. Safety. Kindness. ⠀
There are days where I question every single thing I am doing. Who am I to do this? Who do I think I am to try to make this happen almost every month? I get tired, I get burnt out. Some days I want to give up. ⠀
⠀
But I don’t. I can’t. Because they matter. And ALL of this matters – it all adds up. ⠀
