At least a dozen rock wallabies live on the Nelly Bay breakwater at Magnetic Island, just off Townsville in FNQ. These gorgeous little marsupials bounce around the jagged rocks with incredible dexterity, At dusk, they cross over and join humans on the footpath for a feed of approved wallaby tucker. LOVED hosting @MFWF ’s Westside Wander through Newport, a quiet little gem on the road to Williamstown with surprises galore. We started at Pango for two delicious courses from chef Dave Nichol, moved on for gnocchi and pork cutlets at Heart of Hall and finished at the Junction Wine & Beer Hall for a showstopping pressed lamb shoulder with all the timmings. Thornton is this week’s “On the Road Again” tien, and it’s a cracker. Great pub, excellent general store and a beaut bakehouse in the town’s historic schoolhouse. Thousnads of cisitors fie the long weekend to enjoy nearby Lake Eildon and the beaitiful Rubicon River. Theres also a posh invite-only golfcourse up the road that has regular visits from AFL and other soorts stars. Some take the chopper, while most take their luxe cars for a burn up the Black Spur Road and drop in for a coffee at Thornton. It’s that sorta place.
