President Biden has decided against relocating U.S. Space Command to Alabama, senior officials said Monday, upending a controversial decision by his predecessor as the Trump administration was coming to an end.
Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement that Biden’s decision was made “following a deliberate evaluation” and after consultation with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Austin, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall and Army Gen. James H. Dickinson, who leads Space Command, all support the decision, Ryder said.

Donald Trump’s political group spent more than $40 million on legal costs in the first half of 2023 to defend Trump, his advisers and others, according to people familiar with the matter, financing legal work that has drawn scrutiny from prosecutors about potential conflicts of interest between Trump and witnesses.
Save America, the former president’s PAC, is expected to disclose about $40.2 million in legal spending in a filing expected Monday, said the people familiar with the filing, who like others interviewed spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss information that has not been made public.
That total is more than any other expense the PAC has incurred during Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and, according to federal filings from earlier this month, more than Trump’s campaign raised in the second quarter of 2023. It will bring the PAC’s post-presidential legal spending to about $56 million, as Trump faces a federal indictment in Florida, state charges in New York, and the prospect of additional criminal indictments in Washington and Fulton County, Ga.

More than half of the U.S. population is under excessive-heat warnings or heat advisories into the weekend, stretching from the beaches of Southern California to Maine’s south coast.
A large percentage of the 170 million people under these heat alerts are concentrated from the central states to the Interstate 95 corridor of the Northeast, which is bracing for its hottest weather of the summer so far.
On Thursday, some of the most brutal heat is focused in the central states. St. Louis is under an excessive-heat warning, with highs in the low 100s and heat indexes over 110 degrees expected. Minneapolis, also under a warning, is forecast to reach the upper 90s Thursday with heat indexes 10 degrees higher.

A small group of House lawmakers called Wednesday for greater transparency in the government’s reporting on encounters with unidentified phenomena, in an unusual congressional hearing featuring the testimony of UFO witnesses.
Lawmakers attending Wednesday’s hearing said the government hadn’t done enough.
“For decades, many Americans have been fascinated by objects mysterious and unexplained. And it’s long past time that they got some answers,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) said in prepared remarks. “The American public has a right to learn about technologies of unknown origins, nonhuman intelligence and unexplainable phenomena.”
So far, government officials say that none of the sightings has led to the discovery of extraterrestrial life. Earlier this year, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office determined that nearly 200 of 366 recently reported sightings were “unremarkable” and possibly can be attributed to routine objects found in the air, including drones, balloons and clutter, such as plastic bags.

![Overstock is now Bed, Bath & Beyond. The company swapped its name out for the now-defunct housewares chain on Tuesday. Customers searching for either retailer online will wind up on the same landing page, where both companies’ logos will be displayed for the next few months. Though Overstock’s inventory — mainly furniture — falls more under the “beyond” umbrella, Johnson said the company has expanded its offerings in the bed and bath categories. A legacy Overstock customer will notice more small appliances, such as toasters and stand mixers, and bedding options, he added. But there are some products that won’t be available on the website. Since Bed Bath & Beyond shuttered all its brick-and-mortar stores and Overstock is solely online, Johnson said that it’s doing away with single, low-cost items that “probably [don’t] make sense for us to ship,” such as Tide Pods, K-Cups and one-off orders like a $3 spatula. Instead, customers will be able to buy a set of spatulas. created by We are a newspaper. with We are a newspaper.'s original sound](https://p16-sign.tiktokcdn-us.com/tos-useast5-p-0068-tx/4540e624b02440f9a172f9130e03a6cc_1690922757~tplv-r00ih4996s-1:480:480.jpeg?x-expires=1691553600&x-signature=aXZDMIiOsMfUGk9C6kzJXopF4Uo%3D)
