Toutouwai/North Island robin often come to the ground to hunt for invertebrates in the leaf litter, and will often follow larger animals – such as humans – to look for food in soil they have disturbed.
Toutouwai are curious and seemingly fearless manu, and if you stand still enough when one is nearby, it may come closer than you expect!

Takahē pair Waitaa (F, 3yrs) and Bendigo (M, 6yrs) arrived from Burwood Takahe Breeding Centre and are settling into their new home in the upper valley.
The birds were welcomed to Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne alongside Taranaki Whānui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika, Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Ngāi Tahu representatives.

It’s true! Takahē can poop up to 9 metres of 💩 a day. It’s also bright green until it dries into the whoter colour you see here.
Between two takahē on the wetland lawn… that’s a lot of poop!
Theres going to be even more soon when we welcome two new takahē to Zealandia in late August! Bendigo (m) and Waitaa (f) will be moving into theor new home in the upper valley soon! We’ll let you know when they’re here and when you can visit them 💚🩵
